Artsy Birthday Party!

This weekend I did an birthday party.  Bella was turning 5 and a bunch of her friends were celebrating with her.  The theme was art and the project was doll making.  A while ago I had found some old thread spools and thought they would make great bodies for making dolls.  I glued on a styrofoam ball for a head.  It made the perfect doll body for the girls to decorate.  Using pattern fabric cut outs, paint, yearn, buttons, feathers and more the girls got busy creating their own special doll to take home.  They all turned out different and neat and best of all, it was super fun and everyone was proud of their doll.  Take a peak at the party...

Kid's Art: Paper Mache Sculptures

The winter session has begun and the kids spent the first couple of weeks working on their paper mache sculptures.  First came the fun and messy task of covering bottles with layers and layers of pasty newspaper.  And then they each went to work creating their own unique character, using paint , fabric, feathers, corks and clothes pins.  I love how each is so different.  There's no pressure to be perfect and create look-a-like pieces, just lots of encouragement to explore and take pleasure in creating!
